SMITHE
These clients wanted their Yaletown penthouse to mimic the feel of their Gulf Island house on Mayne Island - a waterfront Pacific North West home. Incorporated throughout are their favourite colours, green and turquoise. The result was a West Coast modern home with a whimsical twist.
Modern architectural details were brought in with custom patterned doors and shadow reveal baseboards and door trims. Walnut, black and concrete finishes brought in the West Coast feel, while playful wall coverings helped bring in charm. To emphasize the urban nature of the penthouse loft, the double ceiling height walls were covered with brick patterned wallpaper, while Bocci 14 pendants cascade down from above. The primary bedroom wall was finished with a metallic plaster and a custom fluted velvet headboard was anchored with Bocci 28 pendants.
Each bathroom was made bold and unique, adding more whimsy to the organic theme. The powder room featured a jungle mural wallcovering, the second ensuite had a backlit diamond matched feature wall, and main bathroom showcased an ice jade marble finish.
The real piece de resistance however, is the principal ensuite, which featured real BC mined jade on the back wall and vanity top. It was a challenge using a unique material but we worked closely with Vancouver Jade Co. to realize the client’s dream of a one of a kind spa-like bathroom. The large concrete soaker tub, vessel sinks and cedar slats made for a custom sauna like atmosphere.
